One of the things about being a writer is you're always looking to get better at it. I'm currently taking the Pro Series class from www.ScreenwritingU.com . This is a great class that I would recommend to anyone who wants to develop good writing skills, whether you do novels or screenplays. I'm learning a tremendous amount!

New Slideshow and Video

I just finished uploading all kinds of goodies to my website from Paracon 2013. They include a new slideshow and video of a talk that I gave on table tipping on the USS Hornet February 2, 2013 as part of Paracon. Later that night we had a great time getting raps and movement on a table up in the Admiral's aide's briefing room. I uploaded some edited footage of that to the multimedia page. The room was too dark to see the table well on video, but you can still hear the excitement. I hope Paracon becomes a regular event!

First mulitmedia FAQs loaded

I finally got the equipment I needed to start creating my videos and uploaded the first two. There's a bit of a time sync issue with the audio that I did my best to fix. If I get it solved, I may redo those. In the meanwhile, check out the page at pamelaheath.com/pods.htm.

Let me know what you think. If you don't like them, I'll delete the page and not put more time into it. However, if you like it and want me to give other topics the same treatment, email me your request at my webisite. I already have two in the works: one on the types of human spirits you encounter and the other on time (a hot topic in parapsychology and physics at the moment).

New FAQs under production

In between doing some fiction writing, I've been working on creating a few short multimedia FAQs as little podcasts. I will be merging video with cartoons and images for more entertaining and useful answers to commonly asked questions and issues. Of couse, that means taking the time to draw those cartoons, shoot the video and edit things together... All very time consuming. Although I have started the page, I am not yet ready to upload it to the site. I'll post here when that happens. If you have any questions you particularly want me to cover, be sure and email me. In the meanwhile, I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!

Updates

I updated all of the video on my website to be mobile/ipad/tablet friendly, so that anyone should be able to watch it. That includes some new footage of a flashlight rollingback and forth on a desk on the USS Hornet--and she's docked, completely unmoving.

On other fronts, I've joined the windows 8 world. After a great deal of frustration I gave up on saving my files and settings and did a clean install. There are two morals to this story. One: Do not believe the windows "update experience" rating. It was dead wrong. Two: Windows 8 is a great deal nicer operating system than most reviewers say. The file structure is the same as Windows 7. The amount you are jarred going back and forth between the start screen and desktop mode can be lessened by matching the background colors (I went with light blue) and getting a windows 8 friendly mouse and keyboard. All in all, it has some nifty features that are fun to play with.

Now that everything is pretty much restored, I should be back to writing soon. More on that later!

A Hornet Halloween

Thanks to motherboard crashes on both my desktop AND my laptop, I've been offline for awhile. Sorry about that. However, now is you chance to investigate areas of the USS Hornet that have not previously been open to paranormal enthusiasts on the gallery deck. This has always been an extremely haunted area, but most of it has never been open before--not even on history/mystery tours. That makes it prime territory to investigate. I checked it out a few days ago, and it is VERY active in the rooms we'll be taking you to. I'll also be giving a talk beforehand on the ship and how the paranormal activity on the ship has changed over the 14 years since I started coming aboard her. Kindle Notes

I'm going to slowly chip away at making a complete set of notes for both of my Kindle editions. Why slow? Because I'm also working on two other projects, an ebook collection of some of my ballroom dancing cartoons and a new paranormal mystery series with its own websites in HTML5. But more on them when they're closer to being finished.

I'll upload the kindle notes as I work on them, so the first versions will be incomplete. The first book to get a set will be Handbook to the Afterlife. At this point, I'm still in the first section of the book, which was primarily Jon's. I expect to have more to say once I get into my own sections. After that, I'll tackle Mind-Matter Interaction: Historical Reports, Research and Theory (currently on sale at Amazon for 46% off) and add in some of the newer studies that weren't published in time for me to include them in the book.

Amazon Kindle edition of Mind-Matter Interaction

Amazon has finally released a Kindle version of Mind-Matter Interaction: A Review of Historical Reports, Theory and Research for a discounted price of $16.49. I'll eventually be creating notes for the Kindle edition, with extra tidbits, facts, and notes on research that has come out since the book was released. However, it may be a few months before I have the time to do it right, as I'm in the middle of writing another book.

Paranormal Challenge tonight!

My first episode of Paranormal Challenge airs on the Travel Channel tonight! This was a really fun shoot - everyone was really nice, and we all had a great time. Dave Schrader had me cracking up, Beth Brown was very sweet, Billy Tolley was a blast behind the scenes, producer Joe Townley was funny and sharp as a tack, and Zak did a great job as producer/host. The investigative teams were a lot of fun to watch, as well. Check it out on the Waverly Hills episode tonight!

Paranormal Challenge

I just got back from filming a second episode with the cast and crew of Paranormal Challege -- great guys and gals, all of them. I had a wonderful time and hope the show reflects the care and work everyone put into trying to make it a good one. I got to meet Joshua P. Warren this time, and hang out with the extremely funny Billy Tolley (his mime act cannot be bested), Zak Bagans, Dave Schrader (back to his acerbic best), and Joe Townley (with a great East Coast sense of humor). You couldn't ask for a better group. My first episode (filmed at Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Kentucky with Beth Brown as the other guest judge) airs July 15th, 2011. I hope you tune in and enjoy it!

I just spoke to North Atlantic Books, and they're already hard at work creating multiple ebook formats for Handbook to the Afterlife, including Kindle, Nook, Sony Reader, and many others. The tentative release date for the ebook versions are July 5th, 2011. An ipad version is not currently scheduled, but may become available down the road.

I've just heard back from McFarland and Amazon is already working on creating the kindle version of Mind-Matter Interaction: Historical Reports, Research and Theory. They expect it to be ready around the end of May. I'll update you if there are any changes.

I followed up with McFarland and they do not yet know when a kindle version of the mind-matter book will be available, but it is still planned. On the plus side, North Atlantic Books is considering an ebook version of Handbook to the Afterlife. Feel free to let me know what you think. I'll let you know when there's more news.

Invited Talk

I now have more details about my invited talk for the Society for Scientific Exploration. There will be no showing up late if you want to catch me! I will be the first speaker on the conference with a talk from 9:10 am until 9:45am on Thursday June 9th in Boulder, Colorado. I'll have to draw some good cartoons for the slideshow to reward those to can get up at that hour! I'll bring books with me to sign (or you can bring your own copies) if you want an autographed one. Next to the Parapsychological Association annual meeting, this is one of the best conferences to make. Top names in the field will be there, and it looks like some exciting talks are lined up. See you there!

Handbook to the Afterlife News

I got some great news on Handbook to the Afterlife today. The rights have been sold to a mainland Chinese publisher, Shang Shu Culture Media Co., Ltd. with official publisher Jiangsu People�s Press/Beijing Fenghuang Media Co., Ltd. This will make the second foreign language translation of the book (the other being Czech).

Complete Site Overhaul

I've been buried for the last week working on a whole new version of my website with some nifty new features. It's now uploaded with:

1) New slideshows created from my PowerPoint presentations for two talks ("Roadmap to the Afterlife" and "The Power of Mental Intention").

2) A return of my recipe page with gluten-free goodies.

3) Three lytebox galleries with popup images (very cool). 4) Four drop down FAQ pages, which get rid of popups.

5) New video of my Rhine Institute talk, including the Q & A afterward.

6) More video formats for TV clips and talks.

7) Best of all, the integration of Google Translate so that you can read the pages in any language.

I am on my way down to Southern California to talk at the International Foundation for Survival Research (http://www.expbeyond.org/) in Orange County, CA, sponsored by the Life After Life Club of Laguna Woods Village. My topic will be "Roadmap to the Afterlife." It will kick off at 9:30 am, last about an hour, and then have another half hour or so for questions. This will be only one of three speaking engagement's I've accepted for the year (one being the USS Hornet pre-Halloween bash and the other a on the implications of nonlocality as an invited speaker for the Society for Scientific Exploration). I'm simply too busy to do any more for the next few years! So, if you want to hear me talk for an extremely reasonable fee (free to Life after Life club members and $3 for others) this is a rare chance. In addition, I'm lugging some hot-of-the-press copies of Mind Matter Interaction down with me, if you want to get a signed book.

Book Details

I thought I'd pass on some specifics about the new book. After the table of contents is a page of abbreviations, then 258 pages of text in small print. This is followed by 4 pages of glossary. The font then switches to an even smaller size for 15 pages of endnotes, 11 pages of double column bibliography, and 19 pages of a triple column index. The book also has 3 photos and 3 diagrams, all of which are black and white.

The good news is that if you have trouble reading the small font, it will be coming out on Kindle, which will let you enlarge the size or hear the book out loud (but expect a lot of woes with this -- there are words and names from around the world not to mention scientific terms -- which will undoubtedly throw off the text to speech software. I've seen a number of folks carrying these around, and while I still like flipping pages and an index I can look at at the same time as material in the body of the book, they are starting to look quite appealing. I'm told they are easier on the eyes than a computer screen, and some like them better than a paper page. So, at least with this book (unlike my others), you will have an electronic option. However, I do not expect to see the book out in other formats.

The Parapsychological Association website at http://www.parapsych.org/ has gone through a complete redesign. For those of you who haven't checked it recently, it is worth a look. It also has information about the upcoming 2011 Parapsychological Association meeting (which is open to everyone - you don't have to be a member to attend) in Brazil! This is excited because there's a lot of research going on at the moment in South America, particularly that country. Check it out!

Mind-matter book back from the printer

I've heard from McFarland that at long last the book has returned from the printer. It's being checked over and, if all is good, it should soon be on the market and in the mail to those who pre-ordered their copies. Whew! For those of you who haven't been following my posts, it's been a three-year ordeal to get this book done. McFarland got the manuscript in October 2009 (so my apologies to anyone who didn't have their work included - some nice studies came out after that). Since then, we've been going back and forth trying to correct typos, formatting, and other issues. The index alone took about four months. However, I hope the end result will be worth it.
