16. FLASHLIGHT TOUR: The U.S.S. Hornet Museum is a retired aircraft carrier with a long and distinguished record in World War II. It was also the ship that picked up the Apollo astronauts when they returned from the first moon landing. Now docked in Alameda, California, it is a museum, open to the public. In addition to the pleasure of seeing this fine vessel, those who are interested in the paranormal will find it has a lively assortment of spirits inhabiting it, most of whom did not die on the ship but returned there after passing on because of their love for the Hornet. I try, when possible, to help out with their flashlight tours, which allow visitors to see parts of the ship not normally open to the public. Tickets must be purchased in advance, and space is limited. We leave from the Hangar Bay at 8:30 AM (take the second gangway up to the ship). Every time we do the tour, we take a different route, so don't be late!

Of course, you don't have to wait for a flashlight tour to visit the ship. The U.S.S. Hornet is open seven days a week and most holidays. Furthermore, they have a Live Aboard program that allows groups to stay overnight, and most of those who staff that program have had interesting experiences they're willing to talk about. To learn more about the ship, get directions to it, and find out its hours, go to their website at www.uss-hornet.org.
